Andrew Boushell

Andrew Boushell is a post-graduate student at the Royal College of Music where he studies with Tim Evans-Jones and is supported by the Douglas & Hilda Simmonds Award. He is an honours graduate of the BMus course at the D.I.T Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin where he studied voice with Deirdre Grier-Delaney. He has participated in many masterclasses with artists such as Ann Murray, Roger Vignoles and Dennis O'Neill and is an accomplished recitalist having performed in Ireland, the U.K, Belgium and the United States. Andrew's oratorio repertoire includes Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, Mozart's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Nelson Mass and Bach's B minor mass. Operatic experience includes the role of The Young Collector in Opera Ireland's Irish premiere of Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire, Older Brother in Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking, the role of Ferrando in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte in a joint production between the D.I.T and Opera Ireland and a national tour of Ireland performing the title role in Mozart's Bastien and Bastienne as a member of Opera Theatre Company's Young Associate Artist Programme. Recent engagements included the cover of Sellem in Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress for British Youth Opera in September 2009. Andrew gratefully acknowledges the support of the Josephine Baker Trust and the Travel and Training award from the Arts Council of Ireland.

 

Alex Mai

Alex Chih-Yuan Mai was born in Taiwan where he received his first degree in English Language and Literature at Providence University. During that period he was heavily involved in public speaking and theatre works, notably Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire (1994) and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet (1995, 1997).  He came to UK in 1999 to do his Masters degree at the University of Edinburgh and finished his Doctoral Thesis in Twentieth-century English libretti at the University of Glasgow in 2008. He began his singing studies under the instruction of Eric von Ibler in 2003 and had been a member of Edinburgh International Festival Chorus from 2002 to 2008. In March 2004 Alex made his UK opera debut as Morales in Carmen with Edinburgh Grand opera and has made his recital debut in St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh in 2008. In September 2008 Alex took up a place at Trinity College of Music, London for postgraduate studies studying with Martyn Hill and Ameral Gunson. Since then he has taken part in Master classes under the celebrated singer, Robert Tear. His opera roles include Ormindo (L'Ormindo), Burlotto (Les Pescatrici), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Fenton (Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor) and Nanki Poo (The Mikado). Alex was also invited to join the extra chorus for the concert performance of Donizetti's Linda di Chamounix with The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden at September 2009. His future plans include The Mayor in Albert Herring at The Trinity College of Music at April 2010.
